This study aimed to make a comparative analysis of the packed and unpacked milk consumption behavior of the families living in isparta province of turkey. data were obtained from the questionnaires administered to 200 families in face-to-face interviews. interviewed families were classified into three categories on the basis of their income level. according to the study results, mean unpacked milk consumption per capita was 6.08 liter per year while the mean packed milk consumption was 24.47 liter per year. share of the food and milk expenditures were 28.71 and 7.87%, respectively. chi-square analysis showed that family size, the number of children under the age of 14, household income, educational background of the parents and mother’s age had significant effect on unpacked milk consumption. among these factors, only family size and mother’s age were found to be significantly related to milk consumption. according to the examinations on the consumer prejudices and thoughts about milk consumption, 17% of the consumers stated that consuming milk causes weight gain, 65% stated that milk is the most nourishing animal product, 52% stated that advertisements play a positive role in milk consumption, 53.5% stated that packed milk contains preservative substances and 32.5% stated that open milk is healthy.
