Pulmonary Interstitial Emphysema Direct Graphy and CT Findings in a New Born: Case Report

Objective: objective: pulmonary interstitial emphysema (pie) is defined as the congestion of the air in the perivascular adventitia and its accumulation in interstitium as a result of alveolar and small airways rupture. it typically emerges as a result of alveoli rupture to excessive distention following barotrauma. besides, it may also be detected in adults incidentally. this article discusses clinical and radiological findings of a new born diagnosed with pie. case: a male new born of 33 weeks was intubated due to tachypnea. in his routine chest radiography, lines and stripes as well as cystic masses in his left lung parenchyma were detected and a shift to the right was developed in his mediastinum. the patient was referred to computed thoracic tomography scan (ct). our case diagnosed with pie along with ct, pa radiogram findings and its clinic recovered radiologically and clinically following supportive treatment. conclusion: in newborns, especially those with mechanical ventilation support, pie is to be taken into consideration in pathologic findings of its respiratory problems and radiograms.
