This descriptive research was carried out to reveal contraceptive behaviour of women and related factors in postpartum period. the study population consisted of 440 women attending sdü medical faculty, paediatrics clinics in isparta between the dates of 03-2011 and 06-2011, around 2-18 months after birth. data were obtained by a questionnaire form that was developed by the researcher. questionnaire form was applied to women using faceto- face interviews. for the statistical analysis, frequency poisson and x2 tests were used to evaluate the data. a statistically significant relation was found in breastfeeding period between variables of the contraceptive method and age, educational state, level of income, family structure and place of residence. these results suggest in the presentation of family planning services, in addition to the use of traditional methods by women, the factors of age, place of residence, socioeconomic structure and husband’s participation should also be taken into account and the use of modern contraceptive methods can be improved. according to these data it was determined that all women were using a contraceptive method in postpartum period, and withdrawal, condom and ria were in the first rows of all the methods used. among the traditional methods withdrawal method and among the modern methods, the use of male condom have great importance in our study as generally occurs in turkey. for this reason at every step of health care, family planning counselling should be given to women preferably with their husbands whatever the couples’ education is.
