Otolaryngology Physicians Knowledge and Awareness of Cone Beam Computed Tomography: Pilot Study

Objective: cone beam computed tomography is an imagingtool which, in comparison to computed tomography, has lowerirradiation and low-cost for three dimensional evaluation ofbone structures of the ear, nose and paranasal sinuses. thepurpose of this study is to evaluate the awareness of the useof cone beam computed tomography among otolaryngologyphysicians.material-method: this pilot study was conducted on 42otolaryngology physicians. physicians were asked to fill in anonline questionnaire consisting of 20 questions. in additionto gathering demographic information, the survey assessedparticipants’ attitudes and general information towards thecone beam computed tomography.results: in this study, most participants (30, 71.4%) answeredno whether they had any information about cbct before.there was only one physician answered yes to the questionwhether you used cbct for any diagnosis before (2.4%).conclusions: cone beam computed tomography, which iswidely used in dentistry, also provides useful informationon the three dimensional radiographic examination of ear,nose, paranasal sinus pathologies. this study showed thatotolaryngology physicians’ awareness of cbct should beincreased.
