Performance Measurement in Hospitals with Pabon Lasso Model and Data Envelopment Analysis

Objective: the aim of this research is to determine theperformance levels of the hospitals affiliated to the antalyapublic union with pablo lasso model and data envelopmentanalysis (vza) method.material-method: in order to determine the performancelevels of the hospitals in the study, vza and pabon lassomodel were used. variables consist of four inputs (specialistphysician, nurse, number of beds, total expenditure) andsix outputs (number of outpatient clinics, number of a-b-coperations, bed occupancy rate, health care income) in thevza method. the pabon lasso model has variable hospitalperformance indicators; bed occupancy rate, bed turnover rateand average length of stay were taken. research data wereobtained from the public hospital association of antalya. msvisio, ms excel and deap software were used for analysisof the data.results: according to the findings obtained from researchdata, 51% of the hospitals were found to be completely efficientin pabon lasso model and 67% of the hospitals were found tobe productive with respect to the vza method. according tothe vza method, 33% of the hospitals were moderately andlowly inefficient, while 49% of the hospitals in pabon lassomodel were found to be inefficient. in addition, it has beendetermined that the patients who are ineffective in the vzamethod in the research are also ineffective in the pabon lassomodel.conclusions: paban lasso model provides importantinformation about hospital bed utilization performance. forthis reason, it is recommended that hospitals should usepabon lasso model besides vza method. antalya publichospital association should be provided with rationalmethods to allocate resources and plans and strategies shouldbe developed to make inefficient hospitals productive.
