Views of Working Engineers on Engineering Education and Workplace Training Model

Engineering education programs in universities in turkey, are similar to each other. in the debates on engineering education, in the education given in our country, it has often been expressed that the application especially is incomplete, that there is little co-operation between industry and university, that the graduates are often inadequate in some respects when they get a start in business. in this study, programs of some of the faculties providing mechanical engineering education in turkey were examined, and the rates of courses such as basic sciences, basic engineering, lectures on specialized field and social sciences in total course load were compared with the theoretical and practical courses. in the survey conducted with people trained in mechanical engineering education in public and private sectors, it was researched whether there was a problem, particularly in the application, or not, and the dimensions of the problem presupposed were tried to be determined. in addition, internships of the students who got engineering education were questioned, and views of the industrial sector on the workplace training program which would be put into practice in technology faculties were studied. in the survey conducted, the working engineers thought that the engineering education which they got met the necessary knowledge and skills partially in working life, and that their present jobs and the education they got partially overlapped and were partially enough. in addition, a widespread perception that there is a problem in engineering education was also received. as a result, the opinions emerged are as follows; recognition of technology faculties was very low, that work integrated training to be applied at these faculties would be very convenient, and that it was believed that this application would definitely be successful.
