VIEWS OF 6TH GRADE STUDENTS ABOUT ORGAN DONATION AS A SOCIOSCIENTIFIC ISSUE

This qualitative study aims to determine the knowledge and opinions of 6th-grade students about organ donation. in the 2018-2019 academic year, a total of 25 sixth grade students from a secondary school in düzce participated in the study. the participants were administered open-ended questions which were created by scanning the relevant literature. data analysis was performed by systematically examining the answers given to these questions with the content analysis technique. findings revealed that the majority of the students (60%) had positive views regarding organ donation. while students expressed their positive attitudes towards organ donation with the words “lifesaving”, “i want to do good and “it is necessary because people need it”; some of them did not want to donate organs, stating expressions such as “i am afraid” and “my organs should remain in my body. some of the students were undecided because their decisions may vary depending on the situation, using sentences such as “whether i donate or not depends on the recipient”. educational researchers could develop an instrument to collect data from larger samples to investigate the knowledge and views of middle school students about organ donation.
