EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE SANJAK OF MENTESE ACCORDING TO THE EDUCATION YEARBOOKS (1898-1904)

In the period of abdulhamid ii, the modern education system, and institutions developed rapidly and started to spread nationwide. at the same time, official documents such as the maarif salnameleri (education yearbooks) published for sharing the information about the condition of education in turkey began to be published. the current study aims to examine madrasahs, the primitive education institutes, and the modern education institutes, ibtidailer and ruşdiyeler, idadiler and schools for non-muslims as recorded in the mentioned official documents. moreover, information is presented regarding the teachers, administrative staff, lessons, start up dates, libraries, and the number of books in the sanjak of menteşe. in this way, the state of education in menteşe, from the ending of the 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century will be described.
