This research was conducted in order to determine the pre-school teachers’ behaviours which enable pre-school teachers to attract children’s attention and maintain their attention while performing activities. as a research model, the qualitative research method was put to use. 36 preschool teachers working at kindergartens and nursery classes in elementary schools which are affiliated to kütahya provincial directorate of national education participated in the research. research data were collected with semi-structured interview questions. the data were categorized by content analysis. according to research findings, pre-school teachers consider attention as the first condition of learning and point out that the forefront of the factors that distract the attention of children are their other friends, physiological needs and physical environments. when the findings related to the teachers' attracting attention ways were examined, it was determined that the teachers used their voices and body languages most frequently. teachers stated that they tried to attract attention by using verbal and nonverbal stimuli. turkish and preparation to read and write activities were shown to be activities in which the attention was mostly distracted.
