Determination of Phenological Characteristics and Fruit Set on Lateral Branch for Some Walnut Genotypes under Yayladağı (Hatay) Conditions

This study was carried out to determine blossoming time of male and female flowers, and fruit set ratios on the lateral branches in 12 walnut genotypes with 8 ages in yayladağı, hatay between 2008 and 2009 years. the female flowers in the walnut genotypes, the first blossoming occurred in april 7, 2008 for şen 1 and april 10, 2009 both tokat 1 and 65/4 genotypes. duration of pollen reception for the female genotypes differed based on the genotypes and years. while duration of pollen reception was 10 days in 2008 for the yalova 1 cultivar, it was 11 days in 2009 for the tokat 1 cultivar. the male flowers started to spread the pollens april 6, 2008 (yalova 4 and şebin) and april 10, 2009 (şebin, yalova 1 and yalova 4). the duration of pollen spread for the male genotypes differed based on genotypes and years. the longest pollen spreading time was observed as 8 days (kr2) in 2008 and 10 days (malatya 1) in 2009. the genotypes used in this study also differed for the fruit sets on the lateral branches based on genotypes and the years. the fruit set ratios on the lateral branches for malatya 1 and tokat 1 genotypes was higher than other genotypes. in addition, kr2 cultivar was the lowest fruit set formation on the lateral branches for both of the years.
