An Overview of Synthetic Pyrethroids

The need for developing innovative, effective and environmentally friendly methods of pest management is increasing day by day due to the overpopulation and insufficient infrastructure. one of the most common insecticide groups used in pest control is pyrethroids. it is widely preferred all over the world for many reasons such as its rapid effect and relatively low mammalian toxicity compared to other insecticide groups. in this review, we discussed the general properties of pyrethroids, their chemical structures, application areas, mode of actions and resistance problems caused by careless and frequent use. despite all its positive aspects, ecological damage caused by the use of pyrethroids is mentioned. due to the careless use of pyrethroids that are seen as harmless, it brings with it many environmental problems. it is the policy of many countries to eliminate these toxic substances in the environment in a short time, environmentally friendly and economically low-cost process. biodegradation is an alternative solution and is used to improve contaminated areas.
