The Correlation Between Emotional Intelligence and Prenatal Attachment Levels of Pregnant Women

Aim: the study was conducted in order to examine the correlation between emotional intelligence and prenatal attachment levels of pregnant women. method: the study was conducted with voluntary 350 pregnant women who applied to outpatient clinics of a maternity hospital in erzurum between september 2015 and march 2016 and met inclusion criteria. the data were collected by using personal information form, emotional intelligence evaluation scale, and prenatal attachment inventory. in order to assess data; descriptive statistics and pearson correlation analysis were used. results: it was found that total mean score obtained by the pregnant women from emotional intelligence evaluation scale and prenatal attachment inventory was 143.39±16.47 and 65.12±11.12, respectively. when the correlation between emotional intelligence evaluation scale and prenatal attachment inventory was examined, it was determined that there was a statistically significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and prenatal attachment of pregnant women (p=0.000, r=0.318). conclusion: according to their emotional intelligence evaluation scale and prenatal attachment inventory total mean scores, it was found that emotional intelligence of the pregnant women was at normal level and their prenatal attachment levels were at well level. as emotional intelligence levels of the pregnant women increased, their prenatal attachment level increased.
