An innavation in nursing basic skills education: Web based education

In today's world, technology is involved in every aspect of our lives and also is widely used for educational purposes and revealing new trends. distance education was first introduced in early 1800s and was for students who wanted to learn through weekly mailed lessons. as the technology advanced, it progressed as well and was transformed into computer-aided distance learning, e-learning and web-based training, respectively. traditional methods of medical and health education are not meeting the ever-increasing and ever-changing demands of the field. owing to the increased use of the internet, more web-based healthcare training methods are being utilized. the education model employing the electronic media is the most commonly preferred distance education model due to several reasons such as easily accessible internet technology, supported communication sources and flexible structure to connect people from different locations. in recent years, because of the difficulties experienced in theoretical and clinical skills training in nursng education programmes, distance learning methods are more often mentioned around the academic circles.the distance education method in nursing education is being used in a number od institutions abroad; however, it is quite new in turkey.in our country, there have been some preliminary studies done on the effects of web-based education model on web-based patient education. unfortunately, there is very little longitudinal research in efficiency of undergraduate level education in therotical knowledge and clinical skills. in this article, we describe content, benefits and limitations and provide information on the uses of web-based training models.
