The Determination of Relaxation Exercises Effect on Anger and Anger Control in Hemodialysis Patients

Aim; this research was done the effect of relaxation exercises and anger training on hemodialysis patients expressions of anger by pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. methods; the research sample is composed of 28 patients who are property of the sample matches and receiving regular hemodialysis in ağrı state hospital and private hemodialysis center between the dates of 15.09.2008 – 20.08.2009. application schedule and questionnaire prepared by the researcher and the multidimensional anger scale developed by balkaya & şahin were used in the collection of data. in the analysis of the date, paired t test were used. nursing as an attempt, for 16 weeks in the process, tranining booklet prepared by the researcher and relaxation exercises cd prepared by the turkish psychological association applied to the face-to-face traning. results: in the present study, it was obtained that the anger level of hemodialysis patients is low, they get angry much more when treated unfairly, they direct their anger to themselves, they choke down their anger by showing introvert and passive aggressive behaviors, they controled their anger by behaving calmly. conclusion: it was confirmed that progressive relaxation exercises and the instructions reduced the anger signs, situations leading to anger, thoughts concerning anger, anger reactions between persons and aggressive behaviors. it was also confirmed that it increased calm behaviors and it had no effect on anxious behaviors.
