A Dimension of Holistic Care: Spirituality, Nature and Relationship with Nursing

Spirituality is innate aspect of human. attention to spirituality increased after second world war although interest to spirituality increased, there is no consensus related to description of concept because nature of it is mainly intangible and individual. at the same time spirituality had been a concept mixed with religion because it was a concept spoken by members of traditional religious groups in the past spiritual care increases spiritual cope strategies and quality of care of individual when there is a disharmony between mind, body and spirit in life events such as physical illness, emotional stres or death. therefore it is emphasized that interventions of spiritual practice are integral complementary of patient care. however, the factors such as nurses’ lack of training and experience related spiritual dimension of care, nurses’own spiritual and cultural beliefs, working envirement is unsuitable and working as job-centered can affect practicing of spiritual care and cause neglecting of it. in this article it was explained that nature of concept of spirituality, its’ benefits on human health and interventions and barriers in concept of spiritual care.
