   The Effect of Perineal Massage in Preventing Perineal Trauma during Vajinal Delivery

چکیده    Perineal trauma is identified as a trauma in genital area occurring spontaneously or because of episiotomy during delivery. women frequently incur perineal trauma while giving birth, particularly at the first delivery. risk factors that will cause perineal trauma are; number of giving birth, size of fetus, malpresentation and malposition of fetus. antenatal factors that will affect the size and degree of trauma are race, age, tissue type and nutrition.related to perineal trauma; dyspareunia, fecal and urinary incontinence and continuous perineal pain will be seen in woman’s future life. a lot of studies have been made on techniques and applications to reduce pain during delivery and after delivery periods. exercise and perineal massage in antenatal period are important applications to prevent perineal trauma. perineal massage is done three to four times a week for 5-10 minutes daily beginning before six weeks the baby is due. also this massage should be done during delivery by midwifes to prevent perineal tears.
