   Happiness in Modern World: John Stuart’s Utilitarian Ethics

چکیده    Modernity is mentioned as an expression of the new order which heralds the complete break from the past and tradition on the basis of secularism that advice returning the face to the world and rationality capable of revealing explicitly the relation between human actions and world order. the new order promises to offer to human a quite new, easy, regular and that is a happy life by means of deriving from a completely emptied intellect and basing on science, mind, and development. therefore, within this modernization process, each field related to human life is at the target of change. modern human beings build new social, economic, and even ethical systems for themselves in accordance with the needs of the age thinking that they can overcome everything with their enlightened mind. our purpose with this study is to able to assess and determine the place of utilitarian ethics on the modern world which is one of the systems built in modern world and appears with a new identity in the new world order, though, we can date it back to the antique age. in terms of utilitarian ethics, one of the most long-termed views and which we deal with on the basis of mill, happiness is the happiness of the greatest number of people, is desired as the last goal and pleasure is the only value criterion.
