4+4+4 Education System According to the Attitude of Classroom Teachers

Abstract: the ministry of national education commenced a new period in the education system with the passing of a new law known publicly as 4+4+4, and increased compulsory and noncontinuous education to 12 years. one of the basic aims of this system is to increase the average period of education for society while the other is to regulate the education system in a way that allows for the guidance of individuals with regards their interests, needs, and abilities. today, the developed countries of the world aim to increase the duration of compulsory education, and they make efforts to this end. many countries try to create facilities to increase the duration of compulsory education above 12 years. this study aims to identify classroom teachers’ attitudes towards the 12-year compulsory 4+4+4 education system, implementation of which began in turkey in the 2012-2013 academic year. the universe and the sample of the research are composed of 301 classroom teachers who are working in the central province of erzurum and its districts . the data of the research were collected using survey on attitudes towards the 4+4+4 education system developed by kılıç (2012). expert opinions were taken in the validity study of the survey. the alpha reliability coefficient of the survey applied in the research was found to be .69. in view of the research, it is observed that classroom teachers agree with 4+4+4 educational implementation in favor of female teachers in terms of the gender variable. it is observed that they support classifying schools as elementary school, secondary school, and high school, and giving courses in separate buildings. they support the idea that the school starting age must be six years .
