|
The present study aims to compare and contrast students’ reading skills, speed, accuracy and comprehension in terms of the reading environments of screen and paper. the sample of the study which was conducted in descriptive survey model comprised 88 fifth grade students. in data collection, the number and percentage of words read accurately in a minute, calculated and comprehension tests were employed. during the process of data collection on reading speed and accuracy, the video camera was also utilized. in the analysis of data, t-test and mann-whitney u tests were adopted. the results revealed that students’ reading rate, reading accuracy and comprehension scores differed significantly in terms of reading from the screen or paper, with higher scores in reading from the paper. thus, it could be argued that students’ speed, accuracy and comprehension in reading from the paper is much more successful than that of the screen.
