A Classroom Activity Evaluation on Singing Performance of the Works in Classical Western Music and Contemporary Turkish Polyphonic Music

This study is an experimental study to determine singing performance level of works in classical western music and contemporary turkish polyphonic music in the orchestra/chamber music courses. studying group is the fourth class students who take the orchestra/chamber music courses during 2011-2012 academic year in the department of music education, kazım karabekir educational faculty at ataturk university. preliminary test-proof test was applied to obtain data. “t” test analysis method was used to analyze data. according to the results related to students’ performance of both works, the difference between preliminary test and proof test was in favor of proof test results. all results point out that three-week study which was done to determine singing performance level of works in classical western music and contemporary turkish polyphonic music in the orchestra/chamber music courses were very effective on the performance of students. however, depending on data, it was stated that classroom activities were more effective in the singing performance.
