This study aims to examine teachers’ opinions regarding the physical structure, design, language, visual layout, curriculum compatibility and scientific content of elementary school 5th grade social studies textbook in terms of the variables gender, taking education on textbook evaluation, seniority and level of knowledge on social studies curriculum. the universe of the study is composed of 5th grade classroom teachers who have been working in central districts of erzurum province in 2008-2009 academic year. 85 5th grade classroom teachers, who have been working in 35 elementary schools located in the universe, have been selected using criterion sampling method which is among non-random purposive sampling methods. survey forms, which were prepared by the researcher, have been utilized for the purpose of collecting data. frequency, t-test and analysis of variance have been used in analyzing the data. in view of the obtained data, no statistically significant difference, which is at 0.05 significance level, has been observed among teachers’ opinions regarding the physical structure, design, language, curriculum compatibility and scientific content of 5th grade social studies textbook in accordance with the knowledge level variables related to taking education on textbook evaluation, and social studies curriculum.
