چکیده    The needs for heating and feeding have arisen along with the appearance of human being. regular heating and feeding have been achieved by controlling the fire. human being, who lived by gathering, and had to survive with his own body temperature, explored using fire for heating and cooking before long. the bigger development for him is, however, realizing that the same fire can be used in giving durability for earthenware. beyond being a cooking device, tandir, one of the prototypes of oven and furnace, is known to be used in firing small pottery which is among essential tools of food culture. that is to say, tandir, which has fulfilled the very basic need of cooking in heating and feeding, has also been used for firing pottery. tandir is a kind of buried furnace which is built with a wall thickness of 3 to 5 cm. and in a shape starting with a cylindrical style and getting a bit conical on top. it has also a feature of oven but it is generally used for heating and cooking. firing pottery in tandir has nearly disappeared today. yet, the effects, obtained with primitive firing techniques, have been used in ceramics today. consequently, anatolia’s tradition of firing pottery in tandir can be used for firing ceramics produced with contemporary sense of aesthetics.
