TRANSFORMING THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE INTO PERFORMANCE IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING: AN ACTION RESEARCH

|
This study mainly aimed at improving the quality of foreign language teaching while observing how the students in a foreign language classroom transformed the theoretical information into performance. in this study, as an example of action research, the participants were a ninth grade students in a high school in şarköy, tekirday and their english teacher as the researcher. the data were collected using a video camera during, september 16, 2014 and december 10, 2014 and the total recording time was around 18 hours. the data were analyzed using content analysis approach. the findings at the end of the study were listed under some categories: how the students transformed their theoretical information into performance and what elements in the classroom prevented them from doing so. the students, instead of using classical, grammer and structure based language learning, could transform the theoretical information into performance easliy using foreign language in a context according to their personal and communicative needs. also, the study provided suggestions about language learning for students, teachers, administrators and parents.
