   TEACHING OF STARCH DIGESTION IN THE MATH TO PRE-SERVICE SCIENCE TEACHERS THROUGH THE PREDICT OBSERVE EXPLAİN (POE) METHOD: THE CASE OF ANYLASE

چکیده    In this study, it was aimed to teach the relationship between starch digestion with enzyme (α- amylase) in saliva to pre-service science teachers through the predict-observe-explain (poe) method. from the faculty of education, 35 pre-service science education teachers who took the “general biology laboratory” course participated in the research during the spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year. a work sheet titled “starch digestion” prepared based on the predict- observe-explain (poe) strategy was used for data collection. the data was analyzed using frequencies (f) and percentages (%). at the end of the study, it was found out that all of the pre- science teachers actively participated in the process by making predictions, 80% of them correct predictions; all of the pre-science teachers made observations and wrote down reasons for their observations; 93.3% of the pre-science teachers participated in the explain stage and 80% of them made correct explain. these findings reveal that pre-service teachers tend to be actively involved in all steps when such kind of teaching strategy is presented to them.
