TREATMENT OF OPEN-BITE WITH DOUBLE VERTICAL HOLDING: CASE REPORT

In this case report, we present skeletal and dental open-bite case treated with molar intrusion via vertical holding. 16 years old female patients’ main compliance was anterior open-bite. after clinical and cephalometric evaluations, increased vertical measurements (sn-gogn:36), skeletal and dental class i molar occlusion, 1 mm overjet, 3,5 mm openbite were found. while arch length discrepancies in upper right and left were -0,5 mm and -3,6 mm respectively, in lower right and left were -0,4 mm, -3,6 mm respectively. treatment plan was extraction of first premolars, intrusion of posterior teeth with fixed treatment. after upper and lower first premolar teeth were extracted, fixed orthodontic appliance was started and in the same session vertical holding was applied both upper first and second molars. anterior open bite and vertical measurements were decreased via double vertical holding appliance and ideal overjet and overbite were obtained. at the end of two months open bite decreased to 0 mm. treatment lasted 22 months. essix plates above the lingual retainer were applied for retention. positive results were achieved in terms of patient satisfaction with nonsurgical treatment of orthodontic correction of anterior open-bite and thus occlusal, functional and aesthetically pleasing results were achieved.
