INVESTIGATION OF THE AWARENESS OF PATIENTS ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS IN EASTERN ANATOLIAN REGION

Aim: the aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge about dental implants of the patients who apply the department of prosthodontics and back of teeth. material and method: a standardized, multiple choice questionary including socio-demographic factors was held on the patients recoursed to the department of prosthodontics, the faculty of dentistry, atatürk university, for fixed or removable denture treatment. 190 patients were included in this study. the ages of patients between 15-60 and they selected in patients with any implant treatment. results: the responds to education level and gender were analyzed by means of chi-square test. the knowledge of implant treatment showed differences with education level whereas the gender did not cause any difference. evaluating the awareness of implant treatment, the subjects declared; no knowledge, moderate knowledge and sufficient knowledge, 30.5%, 53.7% and 15.8% respectively. as to having an implant treatment; the subjects declared; indecision and exact refusal, 45.3% and 7.3% respectively. conclusion: the results of this survey revealed the awareness of implant treatment of the patients in the eastern anatolian region besides the need of reliable informing and accurating knowledge about this treatment method.
