Periodontal diseases, trauma, periodontal surgeries or tooth extraction can often lead to periodontal attachment loss which will further cause esthetic and functional clinical problems including caries and abrasion on root surfaces and phonetic problems. in the presence of these problems, gingival prosthesis is an inexpensive and practical option to provide an esthetic and functional outcome where the results of periodontal regenerative techniques could not be predicted. this article presents the indications, contraindications and classification of the gingival prosthesis as well as advantages, disadvantages, technique and materials used for fabrication of a gingival prosthesis.
