THE INVESTIGATION OF REASONS FOR REMOVAL OF FİXED PROSTHETIC RESTORATIONS AND COMPARISON OF TRADITIONAL REMOVAL METHOD WITH

Purpose: removal of fixed prosthetic restorations on the supported tooth is required due to pain, apical pathology, facet fractures, cavities, and renovation. this study aims to find out especially the reasons for removal of fixed prosthetic restorations that have removal indications; to observe their state of occlusion with the opposite jaw; and to assess the periodontal state and to compare removal methods (between traditional removal methods and using kavo coronaflex method). material and method: this study was carried on 160 patients who age ranged between 19 and 75 (94 women, 66 men). totally, 815 units of prtotheses (800 bridge and 15 crowns) are evaluated. 6 of them (%3,8) had full metal restorations, 27 of them (%16,9) had metal-acrylic, 111 of them (%69,4)had metal-ceramic and 16 of them (%10) had all ceramic crown and bridge restorations. in addition to the personal informations of the patients; the type of restorations, the number of units, the presence of wings, the material of restoration was made of, the time duration of use, reasons for removal, the periodontal state, the state of occlusion with the opposite jaw, and removal method of the fixed prosthtic restorations that have removal indications were recorded on previously prepared forms. mann-whitney u, ki kare test was applied to compare groups (α=0,05). results: the time duration of use of bridge and crown restorations was between 0 and 28 years, and it was 6.18 years in average. the relations between the reasons for removal and duration of use, the type prosthetic restorations materials and duration of use (p<0,05) and reasons of removal and department had request for removal were considered to be significant (p═0,000). conclusion: the main reason for the removal of the restorations was apical pathology. the material of restoration was made of affects duration of use. removal indications damage to tissues less with kavo coronaflex
