ASSESSMENT OF ORAL FINDINGS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE

Purpose: the aim of this study was to investigate dental health in patients with chronic renal failure and dental aspects of chronic renal failure. material-methods: fifty five patients with chronic renal failure aged 6-25 years (28 female, 27 male) and a healthy control group whose age and gender matched with the study group were examined. caries (dmfs,dmft,dmfs,dmft), plaque index (pi), gingival index (gi), bleeding on probing (bop), probing depth, gingival enlargement, gingival recession, enamel hypoplasia were determined. results: dmfs, dmft, dmfs, dmft values were lower in the study group than in the control group. pi values was found to be higher in the study group than in the control group (p<0,05), gi values did not differ (p>0,05). probing depths were statistically higher in the study group (p<0,05). bleeding on probing, gingival recession and gingival enlargement values were found to be higher in the study group, but the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (p >0,05). enamel hypoplasia was very frequent in the study group (%50,1). the maxillary incisors were the most effected teeth from the enamel hypoplasia, the most frequent kind of enamel defect were yellow-brown discoloration. conclusion: it was concluded that the patients with chronic renal failure have less caries, but they tend to have periodontal problems. chronic renal failure patients can be affected from the disease itself and its treatment. it is very important for these patients that they get their regular dental controls and that they have not any oral enfection focus.
