RECENT TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN COLOR SELECTION

Shade selection is one of the most important procedures in esthetic dentistry. tooth color captures a small area in the visible spectrum and shade selection is effected by many factors. shade selection in dentistry can be divided into two categories as visual and instrumental. shade guides are used for visual shade selection. colorimeters, rgb devices, spectrophotometers and spectroradiometers are used for instrumental shade selection. some of these intruments can cause inaccurate results for evaluating the color of translucent objects, such as teeth. but these systems give more objective results than subjective visual examination. for that reason, both visual and instrumental shade matching systems should be used combinated. this review gives information about shade selection systems and advances in shade selection.
