DENTIN BONDING AND EVALUATION METHODS

With improvement of adhesive materials that can bond to dentin, a new age is started in dentistry. there are challenges in bonding to dentin related with dentin’s structural properties and composition. dentin is a vital and dynamic tissue. differences in diameters of tubules at dentinoenamel junction and pulp tissue, presence of dentinal fluid, occurance of smear layer and pathophysiological changes are challenges in bonding to dentin. today, there are two different strategies in dentin bonding mechanism; self- etch and total- etch approach. the aim of this article is to evaluate dentin bonding mechanism and adhesion durability tests that are used to evaluate materials’ bonding durability on dentin.
