Crossbite may be described inverted occlusal relationship of lower and upper teeth on buccalingual direction. posterior crossbite is one of the most common malocclusion seen in transversal dimension. expansion of the maxilla transversally is a method that is used to correct posterior crossbites by orthodontics for more than a century and there are numerous appliances were used that purpose. this appliances are differentiated according to their anchorage points, active parts, frequency and magnitude of the applied force are open to dispute. clinicians rely on rapid, semi-rapid and slow maxillary expansion. in this review, appliances and protocols that is used to the correction of posterior crossbite was evaluated.
