Radiographs are the most accurate diagnostic aid available for the detection of maxillofacial abnormalities and follow up of dental disease. digital radiography is the latest advancement in dental imaging system and because it has many advantages over the conventional film, the system is becoming increasingly popular in dentistry. as use of digital radiography becomes more common, many dentists face with some problems and questions that must be answered during their transition from the conventional system to a digital system. the aim of this review article was to discuss the principles of digital imaging including: direct and semi-direct digital imaging modalities, as well as a variety of factors that general practitioners should consider when purchasing digital imaging system.
