PRECISION ATTACHMENT-RETAINED REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED

Precision attachments are alternative to the clasps for removable partial dentures especially where the esthetics is a primary concern. these types of prosthesis are used where neither the clasp-retained denture nor the fixed bridge is entirely suitable. precision attachment-retained removable partial dentures provide more retention against vertical and horizontal dislodgement under functional forces. precision attachments have series of advantages over traditional clasp-retained removable partial dentures such as favorable stress distribution and improved aesthetic appearance. there are various attachment types that can be employed and the choice of the attachment system is one the most difficult tasks for the clinician. the choice of systems should be orientated on the clinical situation and anatomical structures, oral hygiene, individual needs of the patients and economic factors. this study is intended to guide the clinicians by classifying the precision attachments and also an aid to decision making in the choice of attachment system for the clinical situations.
