|
Bonding characteristic is important for the adhesive stabilization of dental restorative materials. adhesive bonding (hydrofluoric acid and silanization) is the best choice for cementation of silica based ceramics. by the fact that zirconia is not etched, in the literature the results about adhesive cementation of zirconia is controversial. usually zirconia crowns and fixed partial dentures (fpd) do not need adhesive cementation. optimum physical properties such as high flexural strength (900-1200 mpa), and fracture toughness (zirconia 4,9mpa.m1/2; ypsz 9- 10mpa.m1/2) make convensional cements possible to use for zirconia-base crowns and fpd. but if zirconiabase systems are going to be used to restorate teeth with retention problems caused by short crown lengths, advantages of adhesive cementation can be useful. the surface stability of zirconia causes problems about chemical and mechanical adhesion between cement and fitting surface of restoration. because of this reason, different conditioning methods for fitting surface of zirconia-base restorations such as sandblasting or tribochemical silica coating are used. however the content of resin cement which is used is important too. the aim of this article is to give detailed information about cementation of zirconia restorations with eighter conventional cements or resin cements.
