چکیده    Incipient carious lesion, termed as “smooth surface lesion” or “white spot lesion”, is a demineralized surface which is restricted to enamel and non-cavitated although it has a more porous subsurface than sound enamel. initial caries is the earliest stage of caries process and at this stage it can be arrested or remineralized. the treatment of these lesions is of great importance for the prevention of extensive tooth destruction caused by the progression of caries and for reducing treatment duration and cost. to date, the efficacy of several different methods in the treatment of incipient caries has been investigated. the aim of this review was to evaluate the structure, clinical appaerence and treatment alternatives of incipient caries in light of the studies related to these topics.
