   EFFECTS ON ESCHERICHIA COLI OF SOLUTIONS CONTAINING PROPOLIS AND POTASSIUM TITANIUM PHOSPHATE LASER IN ROOT CANAL IRRIGATION

چکیده    Aim: in root canal irrigation, antimicrobial effects of propolis solutions (ps) in different concentrations on escherichia coli were compared. in addition, after application of irrigation solutions to root canal, antimicrobial effect of potassium titanium phosphate (ktp) laser against e. coli was evaluated. material and methods: in this study, forty single rooted new extracted mandibular premolar human teeth were used. they divided into five different groups: group 1 saline solution (positive control), group 2 ps 5%, group 3 ps 10%, group 4 ps 20%, group 5 sodyum hipoklorit 2.5% (negative control). roots which lengths were predetermined were placed in glass bottles. then, the roots were shaped using protaper files by crown down technique. the teeth in the glass bottles sterilized with ethylene dioxide were contaminated with e. coli at laminar air flow. after then, 2 ml of irrigation solutions were used for each teeth. 24h growth were determined by evaluation of turbidity of test tubes. as a final step, ktp laser was applied to root canals to all groups and microbial growth were determined. the data were evaluated statistically using kruskal wallis, mann whitney-u, chi square and friedman tests. results: while the effects of 10% and 20% propolis solutions were found statistically significant, 5% propolis solution was found statisticaly no significant. after all propolis solutions, using ktp laser was found statisticaly no significant. conclusion: at high concentrations of propolis may indicate antimicrobial effect on e. coli in root canals. ktp laser did not indicate enough antimicrobial effect against e. coli after application of irrigation solutions in root canals.
