   OUR EXPERIENCES FOR DENTAL EXTRACTIONS UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA IN MENTAL RETARDED PATIENTS

چکیده    Introduction: dental procedures are mostly performed under local anesthesia. in childhood, in patients with mental retardation or psychiatric problems, in patients with poor cooperation, presence of severe anxiety, severe craniofacial anomaly and history of orofacial trauma are sometimes causes to performe dental procedures under general anesthesia. cases: here in our clinic between 2008 and 2010, 12 patients with mental retardation underwent dental extaction under general anesthesia.these patients were 6-34 years old. four of them were 6 and 11, eight were between 19-34. patients undergoing general anesthesia were cassified asa i-ii. all patients were examined previous to operation and routine laboratory examination was done, additionally required consultations were done. during operation ecg monitorisation, pulseoximetric spo2, and noninvasive blood pressure monitorisation was performed o2 was administered via nasal canula peroperatively. no severe complication was observed. patients were monitorised in recovery room in decubitis position administering o2 via nasal canula. all patients were discharged same day after an average time of 2 hours. discussion and conclusion: the use of general anesthesia in dental procedures becomes more and more frequent in recent years. becouse of practicing risks of anesthesia these procedures should be performed in the operating room by experienced anesthesists.
