In dental practice, esthetic is the one the most important expectations for both dentists and patients. accurate shade selection is seen to be important criteria for esthetic assesments. descripting and transferring the color, perceiving available systems and making accurate measurements are under the responsibility of dentists. in the last years, it’s observed that there is an increase of scientific researchs about color and new advances about measurements and their assesments. re-evaluation of new advances with the current knowledge is important for both clinicians and academicians. nowadays its clear that visual methods are not enough for shade selections and assesments. although it seems that preparing apropriate environment conditions and using shade guides is usually enough in clinical conditions, combining colorimeters and digital cameras with high resolution would make more successful results for scientific researchs. we suppose that future studies would be about developing more sensitive devices with high resolution, that’s not effected by the environment conditions.
