PICTURE ARCHIVING AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS IN DENTISTRY

Digital medical images are important sources of information that direct diagnosis and treatment. in today's dentistry many different digital data sources are being used for a variety of purposes. picture archiving and communication systems (pacs), are basically developed for the evaluation of medical image and information and its archiving and sharing. distinct from hospital information systems and radiology information systems, pacs system stores patient’s social security and medical information, archives images and test results, facilitates the sharing of information between health centers. digital imaging and communications in medicine. (dicom) and health level 7(hl7) are file systems mainly used for this purpose. the aim of this review was to; introduce pacs and the file systems used in pacs and to inform about the applications in dentistry and in our country.
