چکیده    Currently, it is well known that periodontitis is a multifactorial disease. dental plaque biofilm which includes specific periodontal pathogens is its primary aetiological factor. moreover, several risks and susceptibilities have been linked with periodontitis, like various systemic diseases, some genetic polymorphisms, socio-economic or educational status, smoking and psychological stress . chronic stress is commonly thought to have a negative effect on the efficacy of the immune response, leading to an imbalance between host and parasites, and consequently resulting in periodontal destruction. for necrotizing periodontitis, stress has been shown to represent a secondary aetiological factor. in this review the effects of emotional stress on periodontal disease were evaluated in detail.
