EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT CANAL SEALERS SOLUBILITY IN DIFFERENT SOLVENTS

This study was to compare the three solvents (eucalyptus oil, orange oil, halothane) commonly used in endodontics in solubilizing epiphany (pentron, wallingford,ca), mm-seal (micro-mega besancon, usa) and ah plus (dentsply detrey, konstanz, germany) root canal sealers. stainless steel molds with 8mm. diameter and 2mm. height were used to prepare 52 samples of sealers. three sealers were mixed in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions. freshly mixed sealers were placed into sample molds. the samples were then weighed in grams with a digital scale (precisa 205a, scs, sweeden). the mean values were calculated. each sample was immersed in halothane, orange oil and eucalyptus oil solvents. thereafter, these samples weighed again and mean values calculated. the mean percentage loss of weight was determined . in the present study, halothane was a significantly more effective solvent for the resin based sealers. orange oil presented higher solubility effect than eucalyptus oil for the resin based sealer. we found that ah plus root canal sealer was the highest solubility in the test solvents.
