Hypertension is a chronic disorder with high morbidity and mortality rates because of its complications on cardiovascular, renal, ophtalmic and central nervous systems. pharmacotherapy is important for prevention and treatment of hypertension besides lifestyle changes such as reduction of salt intake, weight loss, exercise and reduced consumption of cigarette and alcohol. in this article we aimed to state the pharmacological treatment strategies of arterial hypertension in the light of 2013 esh/esc guidelines.
