The aim of this study is to determine the change in their perception of existing media literacy with the application of the media literacy education model developed for social studies, teacher candidates. the study is patterned as action research. the participants of the study consist of fourteen girls and six boys 20 social studies pre-service teachers who are also students’ third class at marmara university faculty of ataturk education. “criterion sampling” was used to determine the participants. it was shown that media literacy can be associated with social studies lessons. the data of the study was obtained through 2n (i knew what?) preliminary perception and 2n (what did you learn?) final perception form, focus group interview, compositions, and individual interviews. a semi-structured interview form was used for interviews. according to the findings from the study teacher candidates ‘negative perceptions of media literacy towards them before the education change positively after education given. in the same way, the perception of the media literacy course, which was very little at the beginning, increased significantly after education. the education provided has increased the positive thinking of teacher candidates about their media literacy skills. the result is that it makes them more conscious and critical about moy and their perception of the effectiveness of the moy education they attend is quite high. finally, various suggestions have been made to improve the perceptions of media literacy of teacher candidates with the results obtained from the study.
