THE ONLINE PRESENTATION OF BONSAI NEWS, WHICH IS A NEW KIND OF NARCOTIC DRUG: THE CASE OF www.milliyet.com.tr

It is obvious that the news about the increased use of bonsai that is a new narcotic drug, the negative effects on the addicts and even the deaths has appeared on the media. with reference to the fact that the media organ addresses to every part of the community; it is expected that the media shall carry out social functions such as informing, raising awareness/educating when presenting the news about the bonsai. it shall be examined whether there is a concern in the online news for contributing the society about raising awareness and fight against bonsai that has an increasing effect on society nowadays. in this study, content analysis is applied to the news site (www.milliyet.com.tr) that reported the news about bonsai the most in the period of june, july and august, 2014. as a result of the analysis, it is observed that the internet (in the case of www.milliyet.com.tr) carries out the function of informing more than the functions of raising awareness and educating in the matter of the functions of informing, raising awareness and educating.
