THE PROJECTION OF THE FIRST TURKISH LABOUR MIGRATION TO GERMANY ON TURKISH MEDIA “FROM SIRKECI TERMINAL TO MUNCHEN HAUPTBAHNHOF’”

The germany adventure of euro turks became reality with an agreement signed between turkey and federal republic of germany on 31st october 1961. more than half a century in this period, the fifth generation began to occur in abroad. in 1961, the first trains departing from sirkeci to münchen hauptbahnhof carried hope, mystery, home sickness and yearning with them. the first temporary departures of the people who intended to return to the homeland, called a guest worker “gastarbeiter” turned into permanent ones in parallel with the condition revolved. according to the statical data of germany in 2011, about 2.7 million turks live in germany as of today. inspite of the recent returns to turkey depending on the economy of germany, turkish people still take place on the top among the minorities living in germany. although they face various challenges in this half a century time period, the turks made their presence felt in every field from art to sports and economics to politics and struggled to survive in germany. the aim of this article is to understand the projection of the first turkish labour migration on the turkish media. the subjects like in which perspective the migration was taken into consideration by the turkish media at that time, which aspects of “journey to hope” were became prominent by them, which subject were emphasized more, whether they raised awareness of this subject, are examined in this article. the study is limited to the newspapers such as akşam, cumhuriyet and milliyet including the years between 1960-1963. the data for this study is obtained with the scanning method of newspaper archive that will be carried out in turkey. this study which is supported with photographs will contribute more meaningful content.
