THE WAR DISCOURSES OF MEDIA: THE SYRIA ISSUE IN THE MAINSTREAM AND ALTERNATIVE NEWS MEDIA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF PEACE JOURNALISM

In this study, it is aimed to discuss the news narratives of mainstream media which reproduces war/conflict discourse and the ideologies of sovereign powers and to emphasize the contributions of peace journalism to peace and democracy as an alternative journalism practice. to this end, it has been examined the news of mainstream and alternative media concerning syria issue by using the method of van dijk's critical discourse analyses from the perspective of peace journalism. it is argued that the peace journalism is able to produce a democratic and human-oriented solution.
