از منظر نویسنده کتاب معماری اسلامی، ساخت مساجد اسلامی و اجزاء آن، مانند: محراب، منبر، گنبد و مناره، از مسیحیت سرچشمه می‌گیرد. وی سعی کرده با آوردن مثال‌هایی برای هر جزئی از عناصر مساجد، ابتدا آن را با معابد و کلیساهای یونانی رومی و مسیحی مقایسه کند و بگوید از آنجا نشئت گرفته است. هدف اصلی او در این کتاب، آن است که منشا معماری اسلامی را مسیحیت معرفی نماید. نویسنده برای رسیدن بدین مقصود، بسیاری از واقعیت‌های مساجد مسلمانان را نادیده گرفته است. هدف عمدی وی در این میان، برجسته ساختن عملکرد گونه‌های اصلی ساختمان‌سازی اسلامی در جامعه قرون میانی است که منجر به پدید آوردن آن بناها شده است. ازاین‌رو، بررسی محتوایی و ساختاری کتاب مذکور، می‌تواند راهگشای بعضی از ناگشوده‌ها در آن باشد.
