AN INVESTIGATION OF AIT/TUDES TOWARDS THE ELDERLY OF NURSING AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

Objective: a difference can be between the attitudes against the elderly of university studentswho receive health education and who don't receive health education. the research was conducted to determine the attitudes towards the elderly of nursing and phy sical education students at a universitymethods: the population of this descriptive and sectional study was consisted of all students (n=2522) studying in thenursing faculty and higher school of physical education of a university in 2013-2014 academic year. sample was not selected in the study and students in all population weretaken, as a result 1009 students who agree to participate in the study were consisted the sample. students identification form, and scale of attitudes towards the elderly was used in the collection of the data. the institution 's ethics committee approval and formal permission from the institution was obtained for conducting the study. data were analyzed by using and t tests and analysis of variance.results: the overage age of the surveyed students of nursing faculty was 20.42 ± 1.62 years,82.5% of them were female, 49.2% of them were ongoing to the first year, 14.6% of them have been remained in the some house with the elderly, and 51.2% of them were stated that they wont to live in the same house with the elderly in the future. the average age of the surveyed students of higherschool of physical education was 21.94 ± 2.53 years, 67.4% of them were male, and 54.5% of themwere stated that they don't want to live in the some house with the elderly in the future. the mean subscale score of attitudes of scale of attitudes towards the elderly of students studying in the nursing faculty was found as 7 50.03±21.88, the mean subscale score of positive attitudes of scale of attitudes towards the elderly of students studying in the higher school of physical education was found as 150.10±23.60. there was no significant difference between the mean score attitudes of students studying in the higher school of physical education and those who studing in the nursing faculty. it was found that the gender, high school which they graduated, the class which they ongoing is not effected the attitudes of the students students in the nursing faculty and higher school of physical education. it was found that the students in both faculty who wont to live in the some house with elderly have has more positive attitudes towards the elderly.conclusion: a difference was not found between the attitudes against the elderly of university university students who receive health education and who don't receive health education.
