AN EXAMINATION OF PATIENTS ATTITUDES TOWARD THE UTILISATION OF PATIENT RIGHTS

Objective: in this study, we aim to identify patient attitudes towards patient rights defined under the patient rights regulations. methods: the study was performed with in-patients at the internal medicine and surgery clinics of a university hospital. the sample of the study was 136 patients treated in a university hospital, who were conscious and did not have any mental problems, who had been staying at the hospital for at least two days and accepted to participate in the study. while gathering data, an individual information form and patient rights usage attitude survey form were used. the data was analysed using t-test, correlation and variance analysis. the survey used to measure attitudes towards the utilisation of patient rights used a five point likert scale, with the range of minimum and maximum points being between 29 and 145. a high score on the scale shows a positive attitude towards patient rights utilisation. results: the survey results show that 35,3% of the patients were in the 18 - 33 age group, 59.6% were male, 41.2% were primary school graduates, 63.2% had no chronic illnesses, 39% were being treated as in-patients for between 2-5 days and 37.5% reported having information about patient rights. the findings show that the average score for the patient rights usage attitude survey form was 125.91 ±16.24. in the analyzes, it is indicated that there is a correlation at low level and in negative direction between the day number of the patients staying in the hospital and hhkto point average (r = -.194, p = 0.024), and subscales and hhkto total score mean (f = 3.73) of the patients i (f= 7.11) who are stated that they have knowledge about patient rights are found to be significantly higher than the other patients (p <0.05). conclusion: ne can say that the attitudes towards the usage of patient rights were highly positive and that having a high level of information regarding patient rights positively influenced attitudes towards the usage of patient rights.
